Client
Alessandro Gruzza is a promising Italian nature photographer. Fascinated by nature and its unique beauty since early age, Alessandro took up photography in 2002 and has been collecting stunning images ever since.
Goal
With his photographic portfolio and reputation rapidly growing, Alessandro needed a professional-looking website, which would allow him to share, show and promote his photographic work and would become the on-line reference for his photography.
Solution
I went for a B&W colour palette that aims for the photographs’ rich colours to really pop out and draw all the attention. The result is a very elegant, “quiet”, design that doesn’t overpower the pictures but rather puts the emphasis on them.
The design is voluntarily simple, although enriched with some subtle effects that contribute to the general look & feel. The beam of light in the header and the noise in the background, for example, give the design a sense of depth and a more tactile feel.
How to present the photographs was undoubtedly the most important decision for this project. The displaying size of the images was decided together with Alessandro, taking into account fundamental aspects like page loading time, screen resolution, ideal size and original aspect ratio.
Thanks to a nice JQuery-powered slideshow on the home page and the integrated lightbox, we achieved a result which is both engaging and practical, making it easy and fun for users to browse through Alessandro’s photographs.
The website is W3C validated and built with WordPress, thus having a powerful CMS which allows Alessandro to easily and autonomously update his website. Images get uploaded directly via the CMS, leaving it to the system to create the different versions in the specified sizes. Simple. Fast. Effective.
